The Final
I had never felt so nervous before in my life. It all
began when, out of the blue, my father gave me the tickets. Independiente, my
club, had reached the Copa Sudamericana final. We were playing against Goias,
from Brazil. The first match was there, we lost 2-0, I felt defeated. The idea
of losing that final made me feel dreadful. The defining match was at home, we
had to win.
Finally, the day arrived, and as I said before, my
father suddenly got the tickets, so I was going to the stadium. As soon as I
arrived there, I started feeling nervous. Previously, nevertheless, I didn’t
understand how important that match was. I was delighted, I couldn’t believe I
was there. In addition, the stadium was full and everyone was shouting. Both my
dad and I felt empowered.
At last, the match finished, we won 3-1, quite
unexpectedly, we were going to penalties. Not long afterwards, we had the
chance of being champions. If Tuzzio scored his penalty, we could win. Without
warning, he started walking towards the ball, and just before he kicked it, I
tried not to look, but I couldn’t.
He scored it! We were champions!
“We are champions”, my father said.
“I know”, I replied, I felt relieved.
